Machine design, structural integrity and durability
Short description of the research team
Machine design, structural integrity and durability
Thematic fields of interest/research areas:Structural integrity and durability of mechanical components, fatigue life assessment under constant and in-service loadings, uniaxial and multiaxial fatigue criteria, welded structural detail analysis.
Manager/head of the team: Roberto Tovo
Team members: Denis Benasciutti, Paolo Livieri
Research infrastructures:
LIMES is our “Laboratory for Integrity of MEchanical Structures”. It has equipment for static and fatigue testing of small-to-large structural details (two machines for uniaxial loading, test bench with hydraulic cylinders for testing medium- to full-scale components). Tri-axis shaker for accelerated testing and component qualification under random excitations. Measurement of load and strain (strain gages, multichannel acquisition systems). Advanced CAE software for static and dynamic analysis.
Prerequisites of the trainee researcher:
Level of education: Master Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar according to “Marie Curie Individual Fellowship” Action requirements
Research experience: n/a
Required working language: English, Italian
Contacts: denis.benasciutti@unife.it
Further useful information:
The Research Team has a well-established research activity in the field of structural integrity and durability of mechanical systems and components, fatigue life assessment under constant amplitude and in-service loadings, uniaxial and multiaxial fatigue criteria, welded structural detail analysis.
The activity is developed through theoretical analyses, numerical models and experimental testing. In particular, the laboratory LIMES (“Laboratory for Integrity of MEchanical Structures”) is equipped for static and fatigue testing of small-to-large structural details (two machines for uniaxial loading, test bench with hydraulic cylinders for testing of full-scale components). Tri-axis shaker for accelerated testing and component qualification under random excitations. Measurement of load and strain (strain gages, multichannel acquisition systems). Advanced CAE software is also available to perform static and dynamic analysis.
