The Corrosion and Metallurgy Study Centre is located in the new building of University of Ferrara and has a total of approximately 400 square metres of laboratory and office space. The Centre is well equipped for research with a variety of modern electrochemical and various other techniques and facilities including:
- Scanning electron microscope (Terra&Acqua Tech) - EDS microanalysis (TekneHub)
- Atomic force microscopy
- Optical microscopes and metallography
- Optical profilometer 3D
- Portable micro-XRF spectrometer (TekneHub)
- UV-Visible Spectrophotometer
- FT IR spectrometry
- Quartz crystal microbalance
- Potentiostatic and potentiodinamyc instrumentation
- Frequency response analyzer
- Electrochemical noise analysis
- Rotating cylinder assemblies
- Corrosion monitoring equipment
- Stress corrosion test rigs
- Tribo-corrosion Equipment
- Hydrogen induced cracking test facilities
- Controlled atmosphere test facilities
- Salt spray and other routine corrosion test cabinet
- Electro- and mechanical polishing
- Hardness and micro-hardness testers
- Dynamic and fatigue systems
- Charpy impact pendulum
- Tribometer
Other facilities are available, including MAS-NMR. Through the Centre's collaborative research programmes, there is access to facilities elsewhere, e.g. RBS, XAS.
