Training objectives
- The course offers a critical view of globalization. It will be divided into two modules. The first reviews the basic models of international trade. Students will learn the conditions which favour international exchange, the effects of trade on internal welfare and how commercial flows may impact on social structure of countries. Finally, the effects of specific policy measures will be investigated.
The second part will survey the evolution of globalization, from colonialism to contemporary iper-globalization. Within this historical context it will highligheted how trade impacts on social equilibria potentially challenging the traditional basis of social cohesion and political institutional stability. A final discussion involving the political trilemma proposed by Dani Rodrik wil conclude the second module. Prerequisites
- Basics of microecoonomics and macroeconomics are required

- If frontal classes will not be possible, lesson will be online in asynchronous mode alternating with synchronous meetings with active participation of students.
Learning assessment procedures
- Students can choose among two options.
Option 1. Available only for the summer exam session.
Short essay (20 points) on a topic concerning Globalization and written test (13 points) concerning Trade.
Short essays will be due via mail by June 6th. Details (suggested topics, bibliography, lenghth etc ...) will be provided during the course.
Option 2. Written examination in official exam sessions. Studying material: class notes and suggested bibliography . Reference texts
