Training objectives

The goal of the course is to provide students the required knowledge and conceptual tools in order to be able to understand the human resource management policies and the behavioral dynamics in business organizations.
At the end of the course students will be able to understand, assess and to identify solutions to the personnel management problems of a company in relation to its strategic goals and organizational arrangements.

Prerequisites

It is helpful, for a successful learning experience in this course, to know and understand the fundamental of organization theory and design.

Course programme

First part (about 14 hours)
- Introduction to the conceptions of organization
- Competence management
- Personnel recruitment
- Personnel development

Second part (about 12 hours)
- Decision making
- Choice and preferences
- Heuristics and cognitive biases

Third part (about 12 hours)
- Classic motivation theories
- Intrinsic motivation and goal setting
- The relationship between incentives and motivation

Fourth part (about 12 hours)
- Social influence
- Group decision making and group dynamics
- Pathologies in group processes
- Leadership in groups

Fifth part (about 12 hours)
- Group exercises with presentations and collective discussion

Didactic methods

Classic lectures in the first section of the course. In the final part of the course students, divided in groups, offer presentations in which they develop and discuss in depth specific themes and issues

Learning assessment procedures

The course exam is different for attending and non attending students.

For attending students, the exam is divided in three parts. In the first part students are divided into groups and each group has to present and discuss a specific theme or a case study. The maximum score that can be achieved in this part will be 25 out of which you must reach at least 12 to pass this section. The second part consists of 6 multiple choices. The maximum score that can be achieved in this part will be 3. In the third part students are asked to write a short essays in order to analyze the presentation made previously by another group. The maximum score that can be achieved in this part will be 3. All parts of the exam are aimed at testing the level of achievement of the learning objectives as indicated above.
The final grade is the sum of the scores of the parts. To pass the exam the student must obtain a minimum score of 18 out of 30.

The exam will take place remotely or in-person. Further details will be communicated at the begin of the course.
