Training objectives
- The course aims to provide a substantially complete picture of major economic policy measures adopted by the European Union on the basis of the competencies given by the current legal and institutional system, as well as of a specific economic criterion.
The illustration of these policies (sectorial, horizontal and macroeconomic) tends to proceed chronologically, although they are somewhat interconnected.
At the end of the course the student, attending the lectures, is capable of examine and assess the decisions to be officially taken in the near future by the European institutions for the programming period 2021-2027, according to the theoretical approach adopted for the analysis of those conducted so far. Prerequisites
- As a prerequisite, the student must have a good capacity for logical reasoning and / or understanding of the issues of economics and economic policy in general.
For achieving that, the student should have already taken the exam for the following compulsory courses of the Bechelor’s Degree:
- Macroeconomic Scenarios, Markets and Institutions;
- Economics and Public Finance. Course programme
- PART I
Historical reconstruction and theoretical aspects
Section 1: The European integration: definitional aspects and historical reconstruction (6 h.)
Section 2: The process of European integration: the main stages of implementation according to respective theoretical approach (30 h.)
PART II
The main economic policies: main effects and their reform for the next programming period 2021-2027 (20 h) Didactic methods
- The course parts might be delivered in different modes: the first part will be carried out through lectures by the teacher, while the second part might be carried out in a "seminar" mode, requiring the active involvement of the students attending in work groups, organized in collaboration with other similar educational initiatives within the Master Degree Course’s scope.
Learning assessment procedures
- Written examination and optional oral examination.
The exam consists of a written test, requiring the students to respond - in a time of two hours – to six "open" questions, each alleging one of the course sections.
The final grade is the sum of the scores of the two possible parts of written test. To pass the exam the student must obtain a minimum score of 18 out of 31. Reference texts
- Students not attending actively the seminar shall study the relevant sections of the following book, as per the course program:
S. Senior Nello, Politica economica nell’Unione europea, McGraw-Hill Education, 2016 (Chapter 18 excluded).
Students attending actively the seminars, in addition to the textbook, eventually will be required for supplementary readings, to be agreed with the teachers at the early stages of the seminar.
