Training objectives
- The goal of the course is to provide students the main concepts and tools needed to understand human behavior in organizational contexts, with a specific focus on managerial decision making and some elements of human resource management.
At the end of the course students will be able to critically analyze the way organizational practices, with a specific reference to personnel policies, influence the choices and the behavior of managers and employees in the workplace. Prerequisites
- It is helpful, for a successful learning experience in this course, to know and understand the fundamental of organization theory and design.

- First part (about 16 hours)
- Bounded rationality
- Fecision making
- Heuristics and cognitive biases
Second part (about 16 hours)
- Classic motivation theories
- Intrinsic motivation and goal setting
- The relationship between incentives and motivation
Thrid part (about 8 hours)
- Job Design
- Proactivity and Job Crafting
Fourth part (about 12 hours)
- Social influence
- Group decision making and group dynamics
- Pathologies in group processes
- Leadership in groups
Fifth part (about 6 hours)
- cases and example of human resource management policies
Sixth part (about 6 hours)
- Group exercises with presentations and collective discussion Didactic methods
- Classic lectures in the first section of the course. In the final part of the course students, divided in groups, offer presentations in which they develop and discuss in depth specific themes and issues.
Learning assessment procedures
- The course exam is aimed at testing the level of achievement of the learning objectives as indicated above. The exam is different for attending and non-attending students.
For attending students, the exam comprises the following:
- group presentations on topics choses by students and written summary of the presentation
- short multiple choice exam
- short written commentary on one group presentation
For non attending students, the exam comprises 2 open-ended questions.
Indications on the materials needed to prepare the exam will be provided on the "Google Classroom" site of the course. Reference texts
- All required materials (readings, slides, exercises etc) will be available online in the "Google Classroom" site of the course. The code to access the site will be provided before the beginning of the course.
