Training objectives

Knowledge of the theoretical bases for the formulation of solid, liquid and semisolid pharmaceutical dosage forms; knowledge required for the development of disperse systems; knowledge of the characteristics of conventional pharmaceutical dosage forms; knowledge and selection criteria of the excipients used for the production of conventional pharmaceutical dosage forms; knowledge of the methods for the preparation of conventional pharmaceutical dosage forms; knowledge of the main methodologies for analysis in physical pharmacy ; knowledge of quality control assays of pharmaceuticals required by the Pharmacopoeia.
At the end of the course, the student will be able to develop conventional pharmaceutical dosage forms, to prepare in the laboratory the main pharmaceutical dosage forms, to perform the quality control assays of pharmaceuticals required by the Pharmacopoeia and to prepare a report on the procedures carried out during the laboratory practicals

LABORATORY PART.
(54 h)

Didactic methods

- lectures and laboratory practice. During the lectures the contents of the course will be presented and discussed. In the laboratory practice the main pharmaceutical dosage forms will be prepared and the relevant quality controls performed, according to the European and Italian Pharmacopeias.

Learning assessment procedures

- oral examination on the course contents. The reports of the laboratory practicals will also be critically examined. Student assessment is based on the evaluation of the knowledge of the topics presented both in the lectures and in the lab.
