Training objectives

KNOWING.
The student will learn basic knowledges with respect to:
- the basic anatomical concepts including those regarding the central and autonomic nervous systems;
- the mechanisms that allow cells, tissues, and organs to perform their specific functions in the body;
- the components of the various apparatus, and their connections at both structural and functional levels.

SKILLS.
The student will acquire the ability to:
- describe the overall organization of the human body;
- describe the various apparatus and their connections at both structural and functional levels;
- describe the mechanisms that allow cells, tissues, and organs to perform their specific functions in the body.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of glucids,lipids,proteins,nucleic acids,cell, prokaryotes and eukaryotes;general knowledge of the terms alleles, homozygote, heterozygote, genotype and phenotype, evolution.
Knowledges of morphology and phisiology of cell besides the chemical basis of life.

Course programme

Histology: Principal types of tissues an their functional characteristics (epithelium, connective tissues, muscle tissue, cells of the nervous system. Anatomy of systems: Skin and its appendages. Skeletal system(Vertebral column, thoracic cage, pelvic girdle). Anatomy of the muscular system (Diaphragm, pelvic floor, inguinal canal). Cardiovascular system( Heart and blood vessels, hepatic portal circulation, lymphatic system).Digestive system (oral cavity and its appendages, pharynx, oesophagus, stomach and intestine,liver,pancreas). Respiratory system (Nose, larynx ,trachea and lungs). Urinary system, male and female reproductive systems. The central nervous system, autonomic nervous system.

Didactic methods

The course is organized as follow:

72 hours frontal lectures on all the course’s topics so divided; 18 hours of lessons on tissues with help of slide projected by computer, 34 hours lessons on the components of the various apparatus with help of images projected from an anatomical Atlas, 20 hours of lessons on the nervous system with help of PDFS that summarize concisely the subject matter.

Learning assessment procedures

The aim of the exam is to verify at which level the learning objectives previously described have been acquired.

The oral test, in which you will not be assessed as the ability of “repeating” specific topics tackled in the course, because the ability to describe the mechanisms that allow you to perform specific functions at the cellular level , tissues , organs and human body systems , it focuses on three topics.

- discussion on istological tissue

-Size, position, relationships, structure and ultrastructure of an organ, highlighting the structure-function relationship

-demonstration of having acquired the basics of the organization of the autonomic nervous system, brain and spinal cord
if one of the three arguments has not been properly prepared , the examination should be repeated.

To pass the exam you need to acquire a minimum of 18 out of 33 score.
