The course module involves 48 hours of frontal lectures. The lectures will cover the following topics:
- Plant morphogenesis. Autotrophic and eterotrophic organisms. Cytology: prokaryotic and eukaryotic cell. Main structures of the plant cell (vacuole, plastids, cell wall) and their biological and pharmaceutical role. Plant cell as laboratory for production of pharmaceutical compounds: primary (expecially chlorophyll photosynthesisi) and secondary metabolism (14 hours).
Histology: meristematic tissues, adult or definitive tissues (10 hours).
- Anatomy and histology of roots, stems (primary and secondary structure) and leaves. Anatomy of leaves, flowers, fruits, seeds. Pharmaceutical importance of plant tissues for recognizing plants and crude drugs, and for production and storing active compounds. Introduction to reproduction. Pharmaceutical importance of histology and anatomy for recognizing plants and drugs and for the production and accumulation of the active ingredients (14 hours).
- Plant Systematics. Fundamentals of plant systematics. Main families of food, medicinal and poisonous plants (6 hours).
- Relationships between plants and environment. Plant biodiversity. The interactions between plants, environment and other living beings. The supply chain with reference to circular economy and goals of Agenda 2030 (4 hours).

Modulo: 27147 - BIOLOGIA ANIMALE
------------------------------------------------------------
Animal Biology:
The following topics will be treated: Origin of life on the Earth. Macromolecules: Carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, nucleic acids. Animal cell: cell membrane, organelles and nucleus. Cell cycles. Mitosis and meiosis. Different types of reproduction in animal kingdom. (24 hours)
The concept of animal biodiversity. Evolution of animals. Organs and functions in some animal phyla: Cnidaria, Lophotrochozoa, Mollusca, Annelida, Nematoda, Arthropoda, Echinodermata. Symbiosis. The main protozoan and metazoan parasites of human and domestic animals, pathogenecity of parasites. Life cycle of Trichomonas vaginalis, Toxoplasma gondii, Plasmodium (malaria), Taenia saginata, T. solium, Arthropods of public health importance. Products from animal for health, food and for wellness. (24 hours) Didactic methods
- ------------------------------------------------------------
Modulo: 27146 - BIOLOGIA VEGETALE
------------------------------------------------------------
The didactic methods are mainly based on frontal lectures: it relies on the contribution of projected slides, schemes that facilitate the study shown on the blackboard to guide the training, available in textbooks and material published by the professor in the course classroom. Didactic video and specialistic website will be also used to facilitate learning. The lectures are set to an interactive dialogue student-teacher. The discussion of some herbal drugs monographs fo European Pharmacopoeia will promote learning of the theoretical notions.

Modulo: 27147 - BIOLOGIA ANIMALE
------------------------------------------------------------
Animal Biology
Didactic methods are mainly based on front lectures, as important tool for synthesis and development of the formative targets. This tool is focused on slides analyzed during lectures and on related books and publications advised to the student to lead the formative course. For the particular kind of the subject and of the formative targets, the lectures are set as an interactive and discussed dialogue student-teacher.
Because of emergency due to COVID-19 and to limit the inconvenience to the students, the "didactic methods" may take place in different ways than described in this teaching schedule. Learning assessment procedures
- The examinations for the animal biology and plant biology modules will
be held on the same day and the learning assessment will consist of a single written examination or, alternatively, two written partial
examinations.
The partial test may be taken halfway through the teaching period in a

single call and will not be repeatable.
This test consists of 32 questions with 4 possible answer options of which
only one is correct, 16 in plant biology and 16 in animal biology: the
maximum time available is 35 minutes. Each correct answer is worth 1
point. The maximum score obtainable is 30 cum laude, the minimum for
taking the second partial 18/30. The test will remain valid until
31/07/2023. If the student has not taken the second partial by this date,
he/she will have to repeat the entire examination. The final mark will be
given by the arithmetic mean of the marks obtained in the two partial
tests.
For those who do not wish to take the partial examinations or have failed
the first, the examination consists of 64 questions with 4 possible answer
options of which only one is correct, 32 in plant biology and 32 in animal
biology. The maximum time available is 70 minutes. Each correct answer
is worth 0.5 points. The maximum mark obtainable is 30 with honours,
the minimum to pass the examination 18/30.
For students with a Specific Learning Disorder (DSA), the method and
duration of the test will be agreed individually. Reference texts
