Training objectives
- The course is an introduction to other courses in Geomatics in the training of Civil Engineering (L and LM) in Ferrara and is designed to provide basic knowledge of geodesy, statistical treatment of observations, mapping and GNSS surveying. This knowledge is essential to design a topographic survey, to perform measurements and to analyze the accuracy of the results. Therefore, the course includes a significant operational setting, as well as theoretical..
Prerequisites
- To understand the more theoretical aspects of the matter is that the student must possess a solid background in mathematical analysis and geometry. Of course it would be preferable also possess basic knowledge of statistics.
Course programme
- Lectures
- Concepts og geodesy (10 hours)
- statisical analysis of measurements.(20 hours)
- Horizontal surveying. Survey and adjustment of horizontal networks.(20 hours)
- Levelling techniques: trigonometric and spirit levelling. Survey and adjustment of vertical networks.(20 hours)
- Mapping.(10 hours)
- Geometrical optics.(5 hours)
- Total stations: electronic measurements of angles and distances.(5 hours)
- Digital levels.(2 hours)
- GNSS.(13 hours)
Field exercises (15 hours)
carrying out a survey aimed to produce a detailed map of a small area; carrying out a geometrica digital levelling Didactic methods
- Given the theoretical and applicative character of the discipline, the course consists of lectures and exercises in the classroom and outdoor exercises. For the latter, the students are divided into working groups of 7-8 units. This makes it possible that in a short time students acquire a minimum of competence in the operational use of measuring instruments and in numerical and graphical elaboration of the measures. In this regard, students are required to prepare two short technical reports on the work.
Learning assessment procedures
- oral examination: The examination consists of an interview in which the student must answer at least three questions concerning the mapping-geodesy ( not more than 10 points), the statistical treatment of measurements ( not more than 10 points) and measuring instruments ( not more than 10 points). The oral examination is normally preceded by a short written test consisting in the resolution of an exercise in adjustment of observations. Such test must be passed. It 'also required the presentation and discussion of the practical exercise. The final score is the sum of these partial scores.
