Training objectives

The course provides for the advanced design of reinforced concrete structures in the framework of limit state design method.

Structural Engineering

Course programme

REINFORCED CONCRETE DESIGN (4 credits).
Direct methods for limit analysis of structures. Ductility of reinforced concrete sections and frames. Non linear analysis and buckling of reinforced concrete frames. Strut and tie method. Serviceability limit states of stress, cracking and deformation.
EARTHQUAKE-RESISTANT STRUCTURES (1 credit).
Dynamic of a single degree of freedom and elastic design spectra. Seismic design regulations for reinforced concrete frames and walls. Capacity design.
REINFORCED CONCRETE PLATES (2 credit).
Structural analysis of plates. Basic design for reinforced concrete plates. Punching shear.
PRESTRESSED CONCRETE BEAMS (1 credit).
Basic design for prestressed concrete beams.
PRECAST CONCRETE STRUCTURES (1 credit).

Theoretical/practical lessons.

Learning assessment procedures

During the lectures period, several examinations may be carried out. The oral examination focuses on the written examinations. The final mark is obtained as the average of the examinations marks.
