Training objectives
- The course is meant to give the basics of the mechanics of composite materials and their manufacturing technologies

Course programme
- Elastic materials, linear elastics e
linear hyperelastic. Stiffness matrix for an anisotropic linear hyperelastic material. Orthotropic material, transversely isotropic material. Unidirectional foil, plane stress, compliance matrix and elastic constants of a unidirectional foil in
function of the stress angle. Laminates, hypothesis of the theory of lamination
classical, displacement field of a laminate. Stress characteristics e
deformation characteristics of a laminate. Stiffness matrix of a laminate.
Couplings of shear, bending torsion and bending traction. Notable laminates:
symmetric, balanced, antisymmetric, near isotropic, angle ply, cross ply.
Calculation of the sheet-by-sheet stresses of a laminate loaded in bending.
Hygrothermal behavior, equivalent load. General equilibrium equations of a
laminate. Failure criteria: First Ply Failure, Ultimate Laminate Failure, Delamination.
Forming technologies: manual impregnation, prepreg lamination and autoclave curing, winding, resin transfer molding, pultrusion.
Optional exercise: design and construction of a carbon component Didactic methods
