- The course is concerned about basic aspects of polymeric materials
Prerequisites
- Basic chemistry and mechanics of materials
Course programme
- General properties of plastics.
Chemical bonds. Morphology. Configuration and conformation. Molecular weight. Classification. Thermoplastics and thermosets. Transition temperatures: glass transition, melting, crystallization. Measurement.
Viscoelasticity and linear viscoelasticity. Isocronous curves. Creep compliance and relaxation modulus. Models with springs and dashpots. Time-temperature superposition.
Rubber elasticity. Elements of rheology and mechanics of Non-Newtonian fluids. Principle deviations from Newtonian behavior. Rheometry. Rotational rheometers. Capillary viscometer. Bagley and Rabinowitsch correction Didactic methods
