Training objectives
- To supply to the students fundamentals of design and dimensioning, against static and fatigue loading, of structural elements of machines.
Prerequisites
- Knowledge of: static and dynamic of rigid bodies, beam theory and biaxial stress-strain states.
Course programme
- Stress analysis in biaxial state, failure theories and criteria, static strength.
Stress analysis of beams under bending and torsion, curved beams, thin shells, pressure vessels, rotating disks.
Design of bolted and welded joints, shafts, gears and rolling bearings.
Fatigue behavior of materials, influencing factors and Woehler curves. Design against fatigue with specific applications to shafts and welded joints. Didactic methods
- Theoretical/practical lessons.
Learning assessment procedures
- Written/oral examination.
