The course of Elements of machine design is developed in 60 hours of lessons and can be diveded into six thematic areas:
1) shafts and axles, shaft design (mechanical sketch and stiffness) (8 hours)
2) Couplings with parallel side keys,pins shaft, contact stresses (8 hours)
3) Types of lubrification,viscosity,Petroff's equation, Bearing Types, Bearing design, Ball bearing, Bearing Selection, Bearing Life, Shaft and Housing Design, (10 hours)
4)gears, nomenclature, tooth systems, force analysis, design of a gear, fatigue with Lewis equation, contact stresses ((10 hours)
5) belts, Flat belts, friction, equilibrium equations, bending, centrifugal force, flat-and rounded-belt driver, V belts, design procedure (12 hours)
6) Design of a power transmission between parallen schafts (12 hours)

During the course the student will make a design of a power transmission. The report and the mechanical drawing will be considered for the oral session of the exam.

The course is organized as follows:

During the course the student will make a design of a power transmission. The report and the mechanical drawing will be considered for the oral session of the exam. Learning assessment procedures
- The exam is divided into two parts: written and oral.
The written exam lasts 3 hours and includes exercises of arguments during the course.
Who will score at least 18 points in the written will be permitted to perform the oral session.
In the oral session it will be evaluated the student for his ability to link and compare different aspects covered during the course.
If the oral session is sufficient, the final score will take into account the previous score and the quality of the report of the individual project. Reference texts
