Training objectives
- To acquire a good knowledge of the most important aspects of everyday life in the ancient Roman world.
Prerequisites
- The course will explore several themes connected to the history of Roman civilization. Having attended a course of Roman history - even only at an introductory level - will consequently facilitate the comprehension of the topics discussed in class. If this is not the case, students will find it useful to acquire (or review) some basic notions of Roman history by reading handbooks such as A. Mastrocinque, Storia Romana (UTET) or G. Geraci and A. Marcone, Storia Romana (Editio minor). (Mondadori).
Course programme
- The course will discuss the main characteristics of Roman civilization at the time of its greatest expansion (I - IV centuries CE), focusing on the life of ancient Romans by exploring themes such as urban and rural lifestyles, religion, travels, trade, service in the army etc.
Didactic methods
- The lessons will be conducted both in presence of the professor (in Verona) and online. Students are invited to participate as much as possible.
Learning assessment procedures
- The exam will be held orally.
