Training objectives
- Know: The course aims to set music in the context of the knowledge system and to define the cognitive constraints within which music itself may be defined as a communication system.
Know-How: At the end, students are able to aurally analyze simple musical pieces and to recognize the specific role of music in the context of multimedial communication. Prerequisites

2nd module
Communication of emotion through film music
i. Film music: History and methodologies.
ii. Film music and the communication of emotion.
iii. Stanley Kubrick’s Shining: A case study
Part 2.iii will be in seminar form: students will form groups, each of which dealing with a specific, musically relevant scene from Shining (non-attenders are supposed to analyze two such scenes at the exam). Didactic methods
- - Lectures (60%), with oral exposition by the teacher, commentary on texts and videos, and use of Powerpoint presentations. These materials will be made available to students in a shared folder posted on the minisite of the course.
All lessons will be recorded and stored on the FAD- Se@ platform, as an additional service addressed to both attending and non-attending students.
- Seminar activity (40%), with groups for the analysis of different film scenes. Learning assessment procedures
- Oral exam in three parts:
1. A question about the 1st module.
2. A question about the 2nd module.
