Training objectives

During the course students will acquire a competence useful for a more complete and solid knowledge of masterpieces of Italian authors of Renaissance (Ariosto, Tasso, Guicciardini), by the study of their manuscripts and prints and of their textual reconstruction.During the course students will read some of Guicciardini's Ricordi, a canto of Ariosto's Cinque canti, the IX-X-XI cantos of Furioso (Olimpia's episode), some of the Tasso's Rime.

Course programme

The course is devoted to the history of tradition of same Renaissance masterpieces and the modalities to do their critical editions (for example the Ariosto's Orlando furioso and the famous "Cinque canti" or Guicciardini's Ricordi, or Tasso's Gerusalemme liberata and Rime).

Didactic methods

Frontal lessons. Analysis of the textual tradition of literary works of different genders and reading of texts with author's variants.
Lessons recording for all students, also for those not attending the course. Classroom key: hxa7ewk

Learning assessment procedures

Oral questions on the topics covered (on Machiavelli, Guicciardini or Tasso and on Ariosto, ecc.), as many as necessary to verify the level of student learning (from simple memorization of data to more valuable use of concepts learned).
