Training objectives
- The aim is to lead the student to achieve a basic competence regarding the fundamental thematic keywords in the shared field of philosophy of language and semiotics, with a specific focus on the concept of communication. A further goal will be to gain knowledge and mastery of the lexicon of the discipline and its problematic questions.

Course programme
- We will start with an introduction concerning the field of the discipline and its relationship with research fields close to it.
The main part of the course (30 hours; 6 credits) will concern the deepening of the thought of some fundamental authors for the history of semiotics, identifying continuity, discontinuity, and the recurrence of some problematic concepts characteristic of semiotic research and its relationship with the philosophy of language. In particular, the authors whose study will be investigated more deeply are R. Jakobson, R. Barthes, U. Eco, A.J. Greimas, and J.M. Floch. Didactic methods
- Lectures on the fundamental theoretical questions. Guided reading of selected texts. Exercises and free discussions.
Learning assessment procedures
- The exam is based on a written test consisting of closed questions (with a choice between some answer options) and open questions, in which it is asked to the student to write a short text.
