Ability of constructing and of communicating good argumentations, learned during the course, and of developing them autonomously. Prerequisites
- Knowledge of the main lines of philosophy of the Twentieth century (for those who feel defective on this point is recommended reading F. D'Agostini, Breve storia della filosofia nel Novecento, Torino, Einaudi, 1999).
Course programme
- Philosophical Terminology
These lessons, which Theodor W. Adorno held at the University of Frankfurt between 1962 and 1963, are primarily intended to offer a historical and thematic examination of some fundamental concepts of philosophy (Universal and Particular, Subject and Object, Dialectics, Being, Conscience etc.), since, as Adorno writes, "philosophy is essential to its language, and philosophical problems are largely linguistic problems." This introduction to terminology thus becomes a true introduction to philosophy, carried out outside the traditional manual and systematic schemes, with an accessible language that nothing sacrifices to critical rigor, and without false simplifications. Adorno focuses his reflection on certain focal points, in his historical-dialectical ways. Through great "cuts", he faces the main movements of the history of thought (Idealism and Realism, Empiricism and Rationalism, Spiritualism and Materialism), giving us a sort of panorama of philosophy, especially of the modern philosophy, for themes and problems, rich of openings, cues and suggestions.
PLEASE NOTE: This program is valid from January to September 2019. Didactic methods
- The course will take place mainly through lectures in which the reference text will be presented, enriched by readings which will be distributed in photocopy during the lessons.
Learning assessment procedures
- The valuation is based on an oral exam, in which the theoretical understanding and the critical analysis of philosophical texts will be assessed. The valuation will be founded on the correctness of the argumentations and of the philosophical language.
