Training objectives
- Identifying arguments in philosophical texts.
Distinguishing between deductive arguments and other kind of arguments.
Distinguishing the notions of validity and soundness.
Identifying fallacies. Prerequisites
- None.
Course programme
- The ability to construct sound arguments is essential to much philosophy. This course will present the standard argumentation techniques and notions by which they are usually analysed such as deductive vs. inductive and abductive; valid, invalid, sound.
This program expires on July 31, 2020. Didactic methods
- Lectures on the fundamental theoretical questions. Guided reading of selected texts. Exercises and free discussions.
Learning assessment procedures
- The examination is oral. Both learning abilities and expository skills will be evaluated. Learning materials will include a list of possible examination questions: students may want to use them as a self-evaluation test.
