Training objectives
- The course aims to provide the knowledge necessary to recognise, identify and analyse stereotypes, prejudices, inequalities and societal mechanisms related to the issues of identity, orientation, sexual and gender roles that each person experiences in contemporary society and that society in turn influences. The student will be able to enrich their knowledge on the numerous fields of application and study, on strategies to counter distorting phenomena, with an interdisciplinary and intersectional approach. The student will acquire knowledge and understanding of the phenomena also in the application of personal, social, study and working life. Autonomy of judgement and communication skills will also be stimulated, aided by the acquisition of appropriate terminology. The ability to learn will be stimulated by inviting the "re-reading" of habitual concepts and situations.
Prerequisites
- It is better if the student has already basic knowledge of English language and is interested in actuality events
Course programme
- A view is offered from the perspective of sociology and psychosociology, as well as of teaching practices, of the fight against sexism (in particular the thought of bell hooks), of the fight against discrimination, sexism and inequality by dealing with the manifestations in everyday life related to the diversity of sexual and gender identity, sexual orientation, sex and gender roles; patriarchy male chauvinism, the sex/gender system of societies, with a focus on "Italian masculinities" (Fagiani, Ruspini); gender in the family and in the workplace. There will also be an in-depth look at how sexual and gender differences are dealt with in the biomedical field, in health/disease, exploring the potential of the "sex and gender based" approach, "gender medicine", and in this, among other things, the phenomenon of gender-based violence, considering its nature as "avoidable behaviour". The legislative aspects that characterise our country as the only one in Europe with a law on gender medicine will also be explored.
Didactic methods
- Classroom lectures will be offered and videos, articles and various documents will be posted on the course platform to accompany the study volumes
Learning assessment procedures
- The final assessment includes a written test (three questions) that will be proposed in the classroom
