Training objectives

The students will acquire the ability to recognize the physical nature and production process of the work of art, the work organization within the ¿bottega¿ first, and then in the artists¿ studios, the timing and structure of the working process, the relationship between Arts schools (Accademie) and with patrons. Further more, this course also enables students to appreciate the practical elements that enter into the production of a work of art through the centuries.

Course programme

This course provides an introduction which illustrates the subject's goal and tools, then, it will focalize its attentions on history of portraiture as a genre in the late sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, with particular reference to the role of portraits in the relationship between patron and artist and the display of portraits in the aristocratic collections.

Oral examination
Four questions about about italian art history of the 16th and 17th century, regarding specific aspects of artists and works of art.
The examination will last 20 minutes.
