Training objectives

Students will acquire a linguistic, communicative and cultural competence of oral and written English (level C1/C2 QCER). Students will acquire theoretical tools (Cultural Turn theories) and will practice literary translation from English into Italian.

Prerequisites

Students should be in possession of a first degree and have competence in English of a level of at least B2.

Course programme

The course is divided into a theoretical part and a practical one. The theoretical part offers a panorama on the main aspects on Cultural Translation, while the practice will be done on literary texts of various periods and contexts. Students are asked to participate actively and take part to translation workshops.

Didactic methods

Theoretical lessons, analysis of translated texts, practical workshops in class and at home.

Learning assessment procedures

Students who attend are asked to prepare a portfolio of the works done during the course. They will also present a translation with critical comment on a subject that has to be accepted by the teacher.
Oral exam for students who will not attend the lessons and will not participate to translation workshops.
