Training objectives

Advanced ability to a textual analysis of films, using structuralist methodologies, textual criticism and with the instruments of cultural studies. Knowing the history of German Cinema

Course programme

Representation of Berlin in the German and in the World Cinema The students have to collocate Berlin-Films in the context of some important discourses for the German Culture in the Twentieth Century, among others: gender, history, nation, politics,
7 films on Berlin in German and in International Cinema

Seminar paper (10-15 pages) on a Berlin-Film, on a discourse activated by the history of german film with a special attention to intertextual relations and models
