Training objectives
- At the end of the course, the student must have acquired knowledge of innovative approaches to microbiology in the medical field, both from a diagnostic and a therapeutic point of view.
Prerequisites
- Attendance of the General Microbiology course
Course programme
- Pathogenesis of viral infections: interaction with humans and molecular basis of viral pathogenicity. Detection of viral infection.
Definition of drug resistance and insights into the molecular mechanisms used by the various microorganisms. Study of new therapeutic strategies to limit the onset and spread of drug resistance.
Biology of bacteriophages: structure and classification, replication cycles and functions in the biology of the bacterial cell, applications of bacteriophages in the post antibiotic era.
Definition of the main mechanisms of microbiological immuno-escape as a potential therapeutic target. Didactic methods
