Training objectives
- - CARE AND REHABILITATION, welcome and evaluate (using valid and reliable tools and through observation) adult and elderly people with major neurological and orthopedic problems. Contribute to the formulation of the rehabilitation project of the person. Design, propose and implement a physiotherapy program in an efficient and safe way for the person and for himself.
- PREVENTION, carry out primary prevention of musculoskeletal problems and identify the risk of secondary complications for oneself and for people (also through positioning, transfers, use of preventive devices, etc.). Respect the safety and hygiene rules in the workplace.
- THERAPEUTIC EDUCATION, formulate small projects and therapeutic education interventions aimed at people with neurological problems or with orthopedic problems.
- COMMUNICATION / RELATIONSHIP, put yourself in a listening situation towards the person and the care givers. Adapt verbal and non-verbal communication strategies. Interact and collaborate with professionals and other people, welcoming the opinions of others without prejudice and supporting their own in a detailed and polite way.
- PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITY, adhere to the principles of ethics and correctness (code of ethics and protection of confidentiality). Identify your limits of competence and responsibility. Take responsibility for the actions performed and agree to mediate your needs in relation to those of others and organizations. Treat the documentation of the person and that relating to their training course according to the rules and procedures.
-MANAGEMENT, plan the internship activities with the tutor and the didactic coordinator, considering the regulatory and organizational constraints of the training center and the internship venues. Identify and respect professions, roles and responsibilities in the organization.
- TRAINING / SELF-TRAINING, define with the tutor and the didactic coordinator the training objectives and the activities to achieve them. Ask and accept feedback, reflect and self-evaluate. Verify (and integrate as needed) their theoretical knowledge.
- EVIDENCE BASED PRACTICE (EBP) in choosing a treatment or in the face of a clinical problem, seek and consider the best available evidence, as well as the person's values. Prerequisites

Course programme
- - Internship setting, duration and activity: Guided internship (with progression of the proposition by the student):
Guided internship in musculoskeletal rehabilitation services with adults and elderly people with mainly acute or post-acute musculoskeletal problems (in conservative or post-surgical treatment) or chronic.
- Guided internship in specific structures Nursing home / RSA with elderly people with the need for rehabilitation or maintenance of fitness.
Professionalizing training activities. Tutorial activities, in groups and with a single student, for the following topics:
The core competencies of the 2nd year internship (definition of training objectives).
Clinical evaluation and clinical reasoning. The physiotherapy chart on a skeletal muscle case
Aids and orthoses in the musculoskeletal field. Reflection on the internship experience.
Clinical reasoning and practical skills training in a small group and with the presence of experts, on musculoskeletal cases (shoulder, hip, knee area and on neurological cases (stroke, head trauma, spinal cord injury). Frequency of neuropsychological rehabilitation sessions
Reflection on internship experience. Exercise, discussion and preparation for the final internship exam. Didactic methods
- Supporting the tutor, internship guide: briefing/debriefing, learning contract, training feedback
Tutorial activities led by the didactic coordinator, in groups and with individual students, for the definition of training objectives, re-elaboration of internship experiences, in-depth studies on clinical reasoning, laboratory and skill-lab activities with experienced professionals. Learning assessment procedures
- INTERNSHIP: the evaluation consists in a formative evaluation by the internship tutors through the completion of the learning contract of the planned internships (musculoskeletal, neurological or geriatric field); the formative evaluation is then transformed into certification;
INTERNSHIP EXAM: the exam for the assessment of skills required for the second year is divided into different moments: - written test of applied theory (45 minutes); - practical clinical reasoning test on a structured clinical case (2 hours).
The overall evaluation of the three structured tests is the result of the weighted average of the marks out of thirty of the various tests. Reference texts
