Training objectives
- -LESIONS TO THE PERIPHERAL NERVOUS SYSTEM
On completion of the course the students are expected to be able: - to understand the basic knowledge of anatomy and main diagnostic clinical pictures of the peripheral nervous system, -identify appropriate rehabilitation therapy for individual cases; - to utilize the information deriving from an instrumental analysis of movement in order to fit therapy to the patient.
- MOTOR LEARNING
On completion of the course the students are expected to be able:
- to understand the principles of motor learning (in healthy and pathologic cases) and the neurophysiological bases underpinning them. –understand the relationship between motor learning and motor control.
-to define physiotherapy exercise/activity in relation to learning principles (in pathological cases).
-to understand the principles for the modulation of exercises (repetition, intensity, duration, facilitation).
- to define exercises, in pathological conditions, based on motor learning principles.
- MANUAL THERAPY
To know and understand the principles of (manual) diagnostics in musculoskeletal area and in clinical diagnostics applied to the lower limb. Prerequisites
- Knowledge and skills deemed already acquired.
- LESIONS TO THE PERIPHERAL NERVOUS SYSTEM
Physiology of the nervous system. Knowledge of the techniques of instrummental physiotherapy and basic techniques for the recovery of strength and trophism. Basic knowledge of kinematics and kinetics.
- MOTOR LEARNING
Anatomy, physiology and pathology of musculoskeletal and the nervous systems.
- MANUAL THERAPY
Kinesiology, arthrokinematics, neurophysiology (myotomes, dermatomes, tendon reflexes), palpatory anatomy. Course programme
- - LESIONS TO THE PERIPHERAL SYSTEM
Aspects of anatomy. Classification of neuropathies, clinical and diagnostic (particularly neurophysiological diagnostic), radicular disorders and entrapment syndromes.
Rehabilitation of peripheral nervous system lesions and facial peripheral paralysis. Information provided by analysis of movement and their role in clinical decision-making. Clinical cases.
- MOTOR LEARNING
Theories of motor learning. Neuroplasticity. Integration of the central nervous system. Influence of facilitation and setting-
- MANUAL THERAPY
Diagnosis in Physical Therapy. Musculoskeletal Diagnostic principles (anamnesis, active tests, resisted tests, passive tests, special tests, etc.). Clinical diagnosis of hip joint districts, knee and ankle and foot (medical history, Active tests, resisted tests, passive tests, special tests, etc.) Didactic methods
- LESIONS TO THE PERIPHERAL SYSTEM: frontal lessons
MOTOR LEARNING: Lectures with discussion of practical examples. Students teamwork.
MANUAL THERAPY: Frontal lessons, practical sessions and presentation of clinical cases. Learning assessment procedures
- -LESIONS TO THE PERIPHERAL SYSTEM: oral examination with two questions related to:
Q1: Peripheral nervous system syndrome; Q2: Discussion of a clinical case with gait analysis.
Criteria: not only retention of knowledge, but mostly the ability to use of instrumental data as part of a rehabilitation program. Maximum score: 30/30 cum laude. Q1 form two-thirds of the score, Q2 one-third. Duration: 20-30 minutes each student.
- MOTOR LEARNING Written exam, 1 hour: - part 1: answer 10 multiple choice questions. 3 options, 1 correct. 2 points every correct answer, -1 every wrong answer; - part 2: answer 3 open questions out of 6 proposed (for every answer is possible to gain between 0 and 4 points; maximum points for part 2 is 12); - part 3: to solve a clinical case choosing between 2 (it is possible to gain between 0 and 10 points): description of intervention, modulation of the exercises according to the principles of motor learning.
- MANUAL THERAPY:
40 Multiple choice questions, three possible answers and only one correct answer), of which: methodology of diagnosis 13 quizzes, tests for the hip 7 quizzes, tests for the knee 9 quizzes, tests for the ankle/foot 11 quiz. Time: 45 minutes. Minimum grade 18/30 achieved with 9 incorrect or misses answers; then 8 errors= 20/30 , 7 errors = 22/30 , 6 errors = 23/30 , 5 errors = 24/30 , 4 errors = 25/30 , 3 errors = 27/30 , 2 errors = 28/30 1 error = 29/30 , 0 errors = 30/30.
