PHYSIOTHERAPY IN DISORDERS OF THE ELDERLY
On completion of the course the student is expected to have acquired skills in :
-Evaluation by means of specific scales when taking on the care of an elderly patient.
-definition of goals and intervention (including health education and prevention of falls, changes in living environment) in collaboration with territorial and professional personnel with particular reference to the frail elderly patient, bedbound patient, hip and knee replacements, and patients with dementia and Parkinson’s disease.
PSYCHIATRIC DISORDERS IN THE ADULT AND ELDERLY PATIENT
On completion of the course the student is expected to know:
-the main psychiatric disorders of the adult and elderly patient
-models of therapy and support and their impact on rehabilitation programmes.
GERIATRICS
On completion of the course the student is expected to know:
-the basic notions of the aging process, biology of senescence, physiological involution of various organs and apparatuses and the different ways illness is expressed.
-interpretation of changes in demographic and epidemiological profile and their social consequences and risks for the elderly population.
-concomitant pathologies and chronic illnesses and evaluation techniques
-illnesses and important syndromes of the geriatric patient
-cultural needs related to organic diseases in order to reach an overall evaluation of the patient through a multidimensional intervention aimed at preventing or limiting disability in an attempt to recover function
-age-related changes in pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics and the possible effects of concomitant therapies
-importance of pain assessment in the elderly patient
-various forms of treatment, ethics and concepts of palliative therapy and mortality involved in rehabilitation.

- PHYSIOTHERAPY IN DISORDERS OF THE ELDERLY: The oral exam consists in three questions that are randomly selected by the candidate from a container containing 24 questions. For each question, the score ranges from 1 to 10, depending on the completeness, correctness and clarity of the answer. The time is about 5 minutes for each question.
PSYCHIATRIC DISORDERS IN THE ADULT AND ELDERLY PATIENT: written exam (90 minutes) with three open questions (usually, the first question on the psychiatric evaluation, the second on one of the psychiatric disorders discussed during the lessons, the third concerning psychiatric treatments). The test is invalidated by the lack of one of the answers. For the passed test, (starting from 18 points), for each answer will be given a score from 1 to 4, based on its accuracy and completeness. If the three answers have all got the maximum points, then it is given 30 “cum laude”.
GERIATRICS: The oral exam consists of two questions on topics covered in the course, the first can be chosen by the student. For each answer are awarded up to 15 points, depending on the completeness of the contents, the level of detail, clarity in the exposition, argumentation and the ability to make connections with practice. If the student proves insufficient preparation, can be proposed another question.
The final grade results from the weighted average of the three partial ratings. Reference texts
