The students are asked to take part in two role plays. One in which they take the role of a physiotherapist, the other in which they are the patient suffering from a complaint. The student suffering from a complaint is asked to randomly take one of five envelopes. After taking an envelope they can read the complaint which they are suffering from. The students are graded on specific language areas covered during the course (question formation, indirect questions, present perfect and past tenses, conditional tenses and future tenses all within a medical context). They are also graded on their use of functional and scientific language: Asking for specific information about the condition, asking to examine the patient in an appropriate manner, explaining the possible reasons for the presenting complaint and describing a possible course of action, working both individually as well as with a physiotherapist. The scientific language which the student is expected to use is a description of what part of the skeleton or muscular system has been affected and in what way. Reference texts
