Training objectives

------------------------------------------------------------
Modulo: 014863/2 - PATOLOGIA GENERALE
------------------------------------------------------------
To have knowledge of pathological bases of the main health problems, at biochemical, cyto-histological and clinical levels. To know the main drugs used in rehabilitation.
GENERAL PATHOLOGY
Molecular bases of cancerogenesis, diagnosis, classification and staging of cancer; local and systemic defence mechanisms of immune system. Connective tissue degenerative diseases and mechanisms of cellular growth adaptation.
Genetic disorders (mendelian, cytogenetic, of embryo development).
Disorders of lipid methabolism, atherosclerosis, vascular diseases, edema.
Pathological bases of hypertension, hypotension and shock.
Pathophysiology of bone, muscle and joint tissues.
Pathological bases of nervous system (central and peripheral) degenerative diseases.

PRIORITY HEALTH PROBLEMS OF SYSTEMIC TYPE
Know the clinical manifestations of systemic diseases may be attributable to diseases of interest rehabilitation.

PHARMACOLOGY IN REHABILITATION
The main goal of the course consists in providing knowledge of General Pharmacology related to Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics and to assess the basic elements for understanding the mechanisms of drug action. The pharmacological effects of some of the most important drugs in the pain therapy e.g. NSAIDs and opioids will be evaluated with the indication in specific clinical cases.
The main knowledge acquired will be:
- general concepts of pharmacokinetics;
- general concepts of pharmacodynamics;
- evaluation of the drug effects in the pain therapy.
The main skills that are the ability to apply knowledge acquired will be:
- assessment of pharmacokinetic factors determining drug effects, drug mechanisms and toxicity to better clarify the pharmacological effect of the drugs;
- evaluation of the basis of the drug effects in the pain therapy for NSAIDs and opioids with the indication in selected clinical cases.

Learning assessment procedures

GENERAL PATHOLOGY: The aim of the examination is to test the level of achievement of learning objectives previously indicated. A quiz (multiple choice questions) on the basic concepts of the course (Each correct answer = 1 point; each wrong answer = -0.5; no answer = 0). The time for this test is 1 hour. It is not allowed to consult texts or use PCs, smart phones, calculators, .... ;

PRIORITY HEALTH PROBLEMS OF SYSTEMIC TYPE: The final exam for this module is a multiple choice test. For each of the twelve questions there will be five possible answers of which only one is correct. For each correctly answered question the student obtains 2.5 points. If seven questions are answered correctly, the whole exam is considered as positive. Wrong answers will not lead to a lowering of the grade. Duration of the exam: 30 minutes.

PHARMACOLOGY IN REHABILITATION: The aim of the exam is to verify at which level the learning objectives previously described have been acquired. The aim of this examination is to evaluate how deeply the student has studied the subject and how he is able to understand the basic topics analyzed. The exam is based on 16 multiple choice questions with four answers each; the question is worth two points if correct, wrong answer or no answer 0 points. To pass this test it is required to get at least 18 points. The time allowed for this test is 20 mins.

The final mark results from the weighted average of the three partial ratings.
