Training objectives

GENERAL HYGIENE
At the end of the course it is expected the student have acquired principles of epidemiological methodology in order to analyze, understand, and assess the problems related to health and dental care among individuals, and communities.
INFECTIOUS DISEASES
Systematic knowledge of the more important infectious diseases under the nosographyc, etiopathogenetic and physiopathologic aspect. Ability to integrate the anamnestic data and symptoms, signs and structural alterations with the diagnostic laboratory and instrumental approach. Knowledge of the chemioprophylaxis and therapy of the main infectious pathologies.
SKIN DISEASES AND ORAL MUCOSA
To reach useful and practical notions about the most common dermatological disorders which affect the mouth and the skin. Contagious and infective diseases will be particularly studied. The correct sanitary measures to approach infective and contagious diseases during the professional activity will be treated.

INFECTIOUS DISEASES
Etiologic agents of the infectious diseases. The mechanisms of defence against the infectious diseases (natural and acquired immunity) and transmission of infectious diseases. Concepts of therapy of the main infectious diseases. Diagnostic systems and role of the Laboratory. Fever. The main infectious diseases according to the clinical picture and the etiology. Antropozoonosis. Infections in the compromised and immunocompromised host (HIV/AIDS). Nosocomial infection.

GENERAL HYGIENE
-General elements: definitions , meants and aims of the hygiene and preventive medicine.
-Preventive medicine: general principles: health assessment and disease, models of prevention
-General features in epidemiology: definitions, generalities , limits, application fields, epidemiological methods , sampling techniques, questionnaires.
-Characteristics and tecniques of the studies: description, analytical and exsperimental works, risk definitions.
-Features and metodology of clinical epidemiology, the controlled clinical experimentations.
-The infectious diseases epidemiology: generalities, determining factors of the infection, relationships host-environment and parasite-infection sources, modalities of the infection spread, way of penetration and elimination.
-Organization and sanitary planning: evolution of national healt care system, sanitary companies, national and regional health care plans, departimenting of the health care system.
-Concepts and aspects of health education.

SKIN DISEASES AND ORAL MUCOSA
Anatomy and physiology of the skin and oral mucosa. Viral diseases (HPV, HSV, VZV), bacterial diseases (notices about pyodermas), fungal diseases (candidiasis, notices about dermatophytosis). Aphthae. Lichen planus. Bullous disorders (pemphigus). Sexually trasmitted diseases (syphilis, HIV disorders). Contact dermatites: irritative and allergic, both professional and extra-professional. Drug induced dermatoses. Precancerous disorders and neoplastic disorders of the dermis.

Learning assessment procedures

GENERAL HYGIENE
Oral test, including about 3 questions on different topics, in a total time of about 30 minutes, in which the exposition precision and clarity, the connection ability and the communication skills will be evaluated.
INFECTIOUS DISEASES
The exam is oral, individually, based on two questions on various topics (clinical / prevention, bacterial / viral infections) lasting a total of about 20 minutes, in which the contents will be evaluated, the clarity and the ability to connect the different discussion topics.
SKIN DISEASES
Learning assessment will be in the form of an oral exam. Three questions about three different topics will be made. They will evaluate the state of knowledge of the subject, the clarity and the ability to apply the information to clinical dermatological practice. The average duration of the exam will be 20 -25 minutes. To pass the exam it is necessary to get at least 18 point out of 30.
THE FINAL GRADE IS A ARITHMETICAL MEAN OF THE MARKS OBTAINED IN EACH TESTS.
