INTERNAL MEDICINE (onco-hematology)
The student will acquire the following competences:
Oncology: Knowledge of neoplastic pathology and principal blood disorders, from pathogenesis to diagnosis, evolution and complications. Knowledge of the main treatments and of their side effects.
Hematology: Principles of pathophysiology of erythropoiesis, blood cells, pathophysiology and clinical features of the main benign hemopoietic diseases, including coagulation disorders and neoplasias of the lymphohemopoietic system.
CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY
The main objective of the course is to provide students with the basic notion to evaluate and understand the mechanism of action of drugs used in clinic. Learning of the main drug classes, of their mechanisms of action, therapeutic and side effects, will provide the rational basis for a correct and safe use of drugs in therapy.
The main knowledge acquired will be:
knowledge of therapeutic indications, side effects and the mode of administration of the most significant drugs used in medical therapy.
The main skills (that are the ability to apply knowledge acquired) will be:
To extend the knowledge acquired during the study of drug classes to clinical practice, in order to be able to dispense drugs in a conscious way and to foresee / rationally recognize side effects and drug interactions.
MEDICAL SEMEIOTICS and INTERNAL MEDICINE
Helping students to understand the most important aspects of Internal Medicine, to favour tight collaboration between nurse and medical doctor. A special attention is devoted to diagnostic procedures (medical history, clinical examination, hematochemical and instrumental examinations) and therapy of several diseases.

CNS drugs: anxiolytic and hypnotic drugs, antipsychotics, antidepressants.
Pain therapy drugs: opioid analgesics.
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
Drugs for the cardiovascular system and blood: antihypertensive, antianginal drugs, heart failure drugs, haemostasis drugs, antidyslipidemic drugs.
Antidiabetics.

Oncology: Principles of cancer growth and dissemination. Main treatment modalities of cancer and their side effects. Chemotherapy, hormonal therapies, targeted therapies, immunomodulating agents. Cancer of gastroenteric apparatus. Cancer of the head & neck and of the chest. Breast cancer. Cancer of the genitor-urinary tract. Cancer of the brain. Skin cancer. Emergencies in oncology.
Hematology: Hemopiesis, blood count, anemias, myelodysplastic syndromes, chronic myeloproliferative disorders (chronic myeloid leukemia), acute leukemias, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, Hodgkin disease, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, myeloma, thrombocytopenia, coagulation tests, coagulation disorders, Blood groups and transfusion therapy, bone marrow transplantation.

PART I - Internal Medicine
Etiopathogenesis, diagnosis and therapy of diseases affecting the cardiovascular system (hypertension, coronary artery diseases, heart failure), the respiratory system (pneumonia and bronchopulmonary, pleuritis, chronic bronchitis and emphysema). Physiopathology of the main endocrine axes (thyroid, adrenals, gonads, growth hormone) and main disturbances. Dynamic testings for nurses.
PART II - Endocrinology

- INTERNAL MEDICINE (onco-hematology)
The examination is written, online (Google Forms), with 32 multiple choice questions. 16 questions about oncological section and 16 about haematological section. The time length for the examination is 20 minutes. Questions are related to the principal topics of the course. Each right answer scores 1, wrong or ungiven responses score 0.
The module is passed if the overall rating is higher than 18/30.
CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY
Written exam: 31 multiple choice questions (each with four answers). Each question is worth 1
points if correct; wrong answer or no answer 0 points. With all the correct answers you get the
praise. Allotted time: 45 minutes.
MEDICAL SEMEIOTICS AND INTERNAL MEDICINE
Written multiple choice test: 30 closed-ended questions, with 4 possible answers each (1 correct only), to which 1 point must be attributed for each correct answe, and 0 points for each wrong or undeclared answer. Positive evaluation; score equal to or higher than 18/30 points. In case of correct answers 30/30, ‘cum laude’ score is awarded. Allowed timeTime: 30 minutes (1 question/1 minute).
THE FINAL GRADE IS A ARITHMETIC AVERAGE OF THE MARKS OBTAINED IN EACH TESTS. Reference texts
