Training objectives

INTERNAL MEDICINE
To know the clinical and physio-pathological basis of major disorders and geriatric syndromes of the elderly.
NEUROLOGY
To know the major neurological syndromes , the most important neurological diseases and their management.
REHABILITATION SCIENCES
Knowledge of the main welfare issues related to cerebral and spinal cord acquired
SPECIALISTIC AND GERIATRIC CLINICAL NURSING
Use the nursing process in solving priority health problems: Alzheimer's disease, stroke, kidney failure, acute / chronic-dialysis treatment.
Nursing care in the patient with TBI and rehabilitation for the elderly.
NEPHROLOGY
To provide the sufficient knowledge to evaluate renal function at the time of patient admission. The main renal syndromes will be shown, addressing particularly worsening renal function and urinary tract infections. Aim of the course will be to recognize early renal dysfunction.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathology. Basic knowledge of neuroanatomy and neurophysiology

Course programme

INTERNAL MEDICINE
Demography of aging. The geriatric patient. Multidimensional Geriatric Assessment. Disabilities. The geriatric syndromes (falls, delirium, dementia syndrome, bedrest syndrome, pressure ulcers, malnutrition). Osteoarthritis. The geriatric services.
NEUROLOGY
Elements of anatomy and physiology applied to the clinic; central and peripheral paralysis, cerebral vascular disease; deficit higher functions and dementia, headache, extrapyramidal disease, cerebellar syndrome.
Epidemiological importance.
Diagnostic and therapeutic aspects, complications resulting from incorrect nursing care. Etiology, risk factors and preventive measures.
REHABILITATION SCIENCES
Epidemiology. Neuropathology. Evaluation of neurological impairment and disability and their management. Rehabilitation programs.
Epidemiology, etiology, physiopathology and complications of spinal cord diseases: their evaluation.
Autonomic disorders in spinal cord damage.
Treatment of spinal cord disorders including bowel, bladder and sexual dysfunctions.
SPECIALISTIC AND GERIATRIC CLINICAL NURSING
Nursing assessment. Key nursing diagnoses and collaborative problems related to Alzheimer's, stroke and head injury rehabilitation.
Features of the elderly person.
Drug therapies.
Hints of cognitive rehabilitation. Integration Nurse / OSS.
Renal impairment: information management, therapy, changes in body image, epidemiological importance, etiology, risk factors and preventive measures, diagnosis and therapy, nursing diagnoses and collaborative problems; clinical care pathways.
NEPHROLOGY
Sign and symptoms of the main nephrologic syndromes, including electrolytes imbalance, acute renal failure and chronic renal failure

Learning assessment procedures

NEUROLOGY- SPECIALISTIC AND GERIATRIC CLINICAL NURSING
Oral exam, the test is to verify the level of achievement of educational objectives by assessing the knowledge and the student's ability to plan and implement nursing care , conforming to professional standards of safety and quality in cooperation with the assisted person, his family, taking into account standards, ethnic groups and socio - cultural practices of the clients and their families , nursing care plans in integration with the multi-professional team .
The exam is passed if will reach the evaluation 18/30 .
INTERNAL MEDICINE + NEPHROLOGY
Written exam with 20 multiple choice questions with 5 possible answers. Time on 40 minutes. Score: 1 point per correct answer; 0 points for not answered; -0.2 Point for wrong answer.
PHYSICAL MEDICINE AND REHABILITATION
Multiple choice quiz with 15 questions containing 4 or 5 different answers, a correct one. The test takes place in 15 minutes. For a correct answer will be awarded 2 points for a total of 30/30, a point to only partial response, 0 points if no answer or wrong answer. It will be taken into account the student's participation in lectures held during the semester.
THE FINAL GRADE IS A WEIGHTED AVERAGE OF THE MARKS OBTAINED IN EACH TESTS.
