Training objectives
- The student must learn the general principles in clinical pathology and molecular diagnostic techniques and you should be able to apply them correctly in the execution of diagnostic tests of laboratory medicine.
Prerequisites
- Fundamentals of physiology and general pathology
Course programme
- The course includes 40 hours of teaching whose contents are:
Bone metabolism. Regulatory hormones of bone metabolism. Vitamin D. States of vitamin D deficiency. Osteopenia and osteoporosis. Laboratory medicine for the determination of deficiency states.
Iron metabolism. Regulation of iron absorption, release and use. States of excess and iron deficiency. Laboratory Medicine for the study of iron metabolism.
Functionality of the exocrine pancreas. Acute pancreatitis: causes and effects. Laboratory medicine for the study of acute pancreatitis. Chronic pancreatitis; causes and effects. Laboratory Medicine for the study of chronic pancreatitis.
The hemostatic process. Functions of platelets. Coagulative cascade. Laboratory medicine for the study of hemostasis and its pathologic conditions. Didactic methods
- Different teaching methods may be used in order to optimize learning

- cooperative learning and brainstorming Learning assessment procedures
- Written exam lasting 30 minutes with 31 multiple choice questions. 1 point for each correct answer, 0 points for incorrect or not given answer. Should all 31 questions will be exactly issued, the ‘cum laude’ rank will be given.
