Training objectives
- The course contemplates the study of some biomedical issues related to the application of molecular biology techniques, useful for the search for new molecular targets, for the development of drugs and for molecular diagnostics. We will discuss methodologies applied to practical examples, examining and describing several pathologies, the possibility of early diagnosis and innovative therapeutic approaches.
Prerequisites
- The student must have good basis in biochemistry and molecular biology.
Course programme
- -Development of new anti-inflammatory drugs, correctors and enhancers in Cystic Fibrosis
-Development of new anticancer drugs (molecular biology of cancer and theranostics)
-Gene editing (with particular reference to CRISPR / Cas9 technology)
-Research of new diagnostic markers for an early diagnosis (hints to the study of the proteome, secretome and transcriptome). Didactic methods
- Lectures and material on the Moodle platform.
Learning assessment procedures
- Written exam, divided into 4 multiple-choice questions and one open answer. 5 points will be awarded for each of the 4 questions and up to 13 points for the open answer. Wrong answer or not given 0 points. The total score of the exam derives from the sum of the scores obtained from the 6 questions for a maximum total of 33 points equal to 30/30 cum laude. The estimated time for the test is 30 minutes.
