Training objectives
- This course describes the spectrum of gastrointestinal and hepatic diseases in the developing world.
The selection of disorders discussed is depending on regional epidemiology in Africa, Asia and South-America.
The course covers basic sciences and clinical sciences in synthesis. Moreover, the social and political conditions of a number of countries is depicted in order to explain their implications in national and individual healthcare delivery. Prerequisites
- Students may be admitted from the fourth year of course.
Knowledge of English language. After passing the examinations of: Physiology I, Physiology II, Pathology I and Immunology, Pathology II and Physiopathology, Clinical Methodology II.
Note:
Participation in the course is limited to a maximum of 10 students at the University of Ferrara. If the number of requests is higher, the graded list will be defined based on the weighted average of the exams Physiology I, Physiology II, Pathology I and Immunology, Pathology II and Physiopathology, Clinical Methodology II, calculated on 30 september.
Exam’s marks must already be verbalized in the student's online booklet: the lack of one or more votes is reason for exclusion. In case of even votes, will have precedence the student with the highest number of verbalized CFU in the online booklet in the date of 30/9. Course programme
- The course lasts 4 weeks. The programme is composed of 2 tutorial groups of 2 hours each per week and about 5 hours lectures, seminars and practicals per week. There are excursions planned to other universities for special topics (Bologna, Padova)
Didactic methods
- The course will be held with the didactic methods of the University of Maastricht/NL, that includes interactivity in all lectures and other events as well as close collaboration of the students on tasks.
Learning assessment procedures
- There will be a multiple choice test of 40 questions for the participating Dutch students in English language that will also be applied for the Italian students. Furthermore, a power point presentation on selected topics (given at the start of the course) has to be presented at the end of the course. The sum of these both tests will form the final score.
Given the particular teaching method with which they are required courses (PBL) and the organization of the final exam, the exam must be done at the end of each cycle of lessons and not in years other than the frequency. Reference texts
