Training objectives
- The main visceral complications of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus and Rheumatoid arthritis, with particular reference to central and peripheral nervous system, lung, heart, skin, kidney.
Physiopathology, Diagnostic approach, imaging techniques and therapeutic options.
The student should be able to recognise signs and symptoms of the main organ involvement of systemic autoimmune diseases and to plan, autonomously, a reasoned differential diagnostic and therapeutic pathway, involving the patient and tailoring decisions on his/her needs. Prerequisites
- Basic immunology. Knowledge of the physiopathology of the tissue and organ immune mediated damage.
Course programme
- - Neuropsychiatric involvement in SLE (part I and II)
- Extra-articular manifestations of Rheumatoid arthritis (RA-vasculitis, RA- lung disease)
- Central nervous System (CNS) involvement in Rheumatoid arthritis (part I and II)
- Cardiovascular risk in rheumatic diseases (focus on Rheumatoid Arthritis)
- Arthritis histopathology: characteristics of the synovitis in rheumatoid arthritis and psoriatic arthritis
- Renal involvement in SLE
- Antiphospholipid syndrome (this topic will be focused on obstetric complications of the disease and on the importance of pregnancy –counselling according to a personalized and gender medicine approach. Didactic methods

- Oral examination: average 1-2 questions about the course program, mean duration 15 minutes (it will be evaluated the clarity, link ability, strictness and communication capability)
