Training objectives
- To provide knowledges on epidemiology, clinic, diagnosis and tretament of the emergent Infectious, Tropical and Parasitic Diseases in the migrant, international traveller and in Developing Countries.
Prerequisites
- Basic knowledges of microbiology, clinic, semeiology and pharmacolgy. For the examination, students must have passed the examination of Infectious and Tropical Diseases 4th year, 1st semester)..
Course programme
- Knowledge of the main Infectious and Tropical Diseases in relation to globalization (migration, travel and trade); emerging opportunistic infections and parasitic diseases in the compromised and immunocompromised patient. Epidemiology, clinic and diagnosis of the the main Infectious and Tropical Diseases related to insect bites (Malaria, Chikungunya, West Nile and Chagas disease), ingestion of contaminated food or water (typhoid fever, traveller's diarrhea, hepatitis A and E), contact with animals (leptospirosis, brucellosis, rabies, Q fever, histoplasmosis, haemorragic fevers (Marburg, Lassa, Dengue and Ebola). The student must also know eosinophylia, myasis, Larva Migrans disease, leprosy, African trypanosomiasis, bird flu, SARS and MERS, sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), haemorragic viral fever (Dengue and Ebola), Ciguatera. Infectious and Tropical diseases connected to the traveler and relevant vaccinations.
Didactic methods
- Lectures. The student must know the arguments regarding the program that the teacher carries during the cycles of lessons, to be completed with the textbook.
Learning assessment procedures
- The duration of the exam is approximately 10-15 minutes.
