Training objectives
- To learn the biological mechanisms of functional recovery that occours after a central nervous system lesion and the rehabilitative strategies available to enhance this process. To understand the disease-specific trajectories of recovery, the prognostic and gender-related factors. At the end of this course, the student will be able to propose an hypothesis of rehabilitative intervention based on the ongoing neuroscientific evidence.
Prerequisites
- Foundations of anatomy and physiology of the central nervous system, specifically of the motor systems. Brief knowledge of the most common neurological diseases that cause disability.
Course programme
- (1) The biological mechanisms of recovery after CNS. (2) Rehabilitative interventions to promote neuroplasticity. (3) Stroke rehabilitation (4) Severe acquired brain injury rehabilitation (5) Neurdegenerative diseases rehabilitation.
