Training objectives

Provide the student with basic knowledge about the immune system's ability to fight infections and the immune-evasion mechanisms of microorganisms, paying particular attention to the pathological effects caused by the immune response itself, in order to stimulate and focus the learning of those topics of base that will then be the object of a better understanding in the teachings of Infectious Diseases and Hygiene.

Prerequisites


Frequency of courses: Applied Biology and Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

Basic concepts on innate and adaptive immunity
Immunity to microbes
Immunity to extracellular bacteria and immune evasion
Immunity to intracellular bacteria and immune evasion
Immunity to viruses and immune evasion
The role of infections in Autoimmunity
Strategies for vaccines development
Consideration for and against vaccinations

Didactic methods

Video-lessons and two frontal Focus group, associated with assisted teaching on a certified Moodle platform

Learning assessment procedures

24 Multiple choice test: the student should select one or two correct answers from a list of four or five possible ones;
4 open questions.
