Training objectives
- To learn how to diagnose and treat the most frequent non-professional acute and chronic intoxications.
Prerequisites
- Knowledge of general pharmacology
Course programme
- General Toxicology
Mechanisms of actions of the toxins. Types of toxicity: acute and chronic dose-dependent toxicity, allergies, idiosyncratic reactions, chemical cancerogenesis, teratogenesis. Variations in toxicity. Antidotes.
Medical Toxicology
Acute intoxications: the most frequent intoxications produced by drugs, mushrooms, animal poisons.
Eco-toxicology. Non-professional chronic intoxications.Drug abuse: alcohol, heroin, cocaine, LSD, ecstasy, amphetamines, cannabis. Didactic methods

Learning assessment procedures
- The exam will consist in a multiple choice test with 20 questions spanning the teaching program. The exam will be passed with at least 15 correct answers, and may be integrated by an oral part aimed at better investigating the student’s knowledge of the topics in which he/she made mistakes in the written part.
