Training objectives
- Provide basic knowledge for reading and understanding the results of the most common clinical tests used to ascertain the patient's good health, in order to reduce the complications of dental treatment and improve the chances of success of the therapy (blood and urine tests).
To acquire knowledge on the evaluation of the results of clinical tests: to distinguish between health and disease, to differentiate diseases, to assess severity and progression of the disease, to ensure effectiveness, side effects and possible toxicity of the therapy. Prerequisites
- Basic knowledge of biology and anatomy.
Course programme
- Clinical analysis of Diabetes and Hypoglycemia.
Plasma enzymes as markers of tissue damage: hepatitis, damage to skeletal and heart muscle, pancreatitis.
Clinical markers of inflammatory pathologies: VES, PCR.
Plasma lipoprotein assay to assess cardiovascular risk.
Direct and indirect enzyme immunoassays to monitor tumor markers and antibodies of autoimmune diseases.
Immunological methods of self-monitoring (eg for the screening of Celiac disease).
First level tests for diagnosis and monitoring of HCV, HIV and Covid19 infection: identification of genomes, antigens and antibodies for diagnostic use and for the assessment of risk in the clinic.
Outline of clinical markers in urine. Didactic methods
- Recorded lessons delivered in the Classroom.
Learning assessment procedures
- Oral presentation recorded in PPT format, shared with the class, of some topics of the course assigned by the teacher. The achievement of the objectives in terms of knowledge and understanding of the topics covered will be ascertained.
