Training objectives
- To improve the knowledge of the structures involved in ingestion and mastication of aliments as well as in articulation of the spoken language.
Prerequisites
- General knowledge of the anatomy of the skull, oral cavity, pharynx, locomotor apparatus and nervous system.
Course programme
- Relationship of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). Morphology and mechanical of TMJ: structure of the articular surfaces, articular disc, capsule and ligaments. The functional and limit movements of the jaw. Characteristics of the masticatory muscles and their insertion in the mechanical of TMJ. Sovraioidei, sottoiodei and mimic muscles in the movement of the jaw. The TMJ and posture: the cranium-cervical spine-mandible-hyoid system. Structure of the palate, tongue, pharynx. Role of the stomatognathic system in speech and swallowing.

Learning assessment procedures
- Oral exam: an average of 2 questions on various topics, average duration 30 min. Will be evaluated, in addition to the basic understanding of the topics, the clarity and the ability to connect various aspects of the treated arguments.
