Training objectives

KNOWLEDGE: The course is aimed at improving students’ language skills needed to communicate effectively in workplace settings. Focus will be laid upon the consolidation of reading, writing and listening skills in professional communication to allow students to understand the gist as well as the lexico-grammatical and syntactic features of a number of texts belonging to the field of dentistry. Through lectures and class exercises in English, the course provides students with a balanced knowledge of oral and written comprehension.


SKILLS: At the end of the course, students will be able to listen, speak, read and write fluently and accurately on various topics related to the field of dentistry.

English at B1 level.

GRAMMAR:
Determiners, Quantifiers and Articles
Present Tenses
Past Tenses
Future Tenses
Adjectives and Adverbs
Comparatives and Superlatives
Relative Pronouns and Relative Clauses
Modals
The Passive
Conditional Clauses (zero, first, second and third)
Direct and Indirect Speech

SPECIALISED ENGLISH:
Reading of Specialised Texts, Translation and Comprehension Exercises.

Didactic methods

Grammar: 18 hours in presence, 24 hours pre-recorded
+ 22 pre-recorded hours of English for Specific Purposes (ESP), and 32 hours on Moodle.
The classes will be held by mother tongue teachers using a variety of approaches to present technical language and work on the analysis of texts with specific language and syntax. Interactive sessions will allow students to ask for feedbacks on their work and on the topics studied in class, and will allow them to learn through activities and exercises.

Learning assessment procedures

WRITTEN EXAMINATION
Written exam with 31 multiple-choice questions. Each question is given 1 point if correct; wrong or no answers 0 points. Pass mark is 18/30. Students are allowed 30 minutes for the exam. The written exam may be carried out remotely or in presence, depending on the regulatory and / or epidemiological context.
