Training objectives
- To know science and technology of Bio-materials used in dentistry and laboratory techniques suitable for the realization of prosthetic artefacts.

Course programme
- DENTAL MATERIALS
Science and technology of dental materials. CallbacksCall-backs on the matter: composition, structure and state of aggregation. The states of equilibrium. Adhesion and Cohesion. Biological, physical, technological properties; knowledge of commodities.
The Metals: solidification and structure, deformation, hardening, recrystallization and increase of the grain.
The alloys: constitution and reaction at the solid state. Heat treatments. The corrosion.
Alloys for amalgams and their structure. Dental amalgams: dimensional variations, resistance, creep. (Gold for direct fillings).
Dental cements: classification, composition and structure.
The synthetic polymers: resins for RestaurativeRestorative Dentistry. Enamel-dentinal adhesive systems. Techniques of polymerization.
The materials in Endodontics. The Ni-Ti alloys. Materials for restoration devitalized teeth. Noble Alloys for casting, not noble Alloys for casting, noble and not noble semifinished alloys. Steels.
Procedures for fusions. Coverings: classification, structure and composition. Materials and procedures for soldering.
Gypsums: gypsums for models, gypsums for print. Waxes. Dental ceramics: classification and their structure. The working of ceramics. The synthetic polymers in Prosthetic Dentistry. Rigid materials for dental prints: thermoplastic pastes, gypsums, to Zinc oxide-Eugenolo pastes. The elastic materials for dental prints: irreversible hydrocolloid, reversible hydrocolloid, elastomers.
PROSTHETIC TECHNOLOGIES
Techniques of lost wax casting. Laboratory techniques for the construction of removable dentures (muffle). Cad-cam systems for the realization of prosthetic framework
Practical training: alginate impression, plaster cast, using waxes, thermoplastic materials, acrylic resins. Didactic methods

Learning assessment procedures
- Oral exam: about 4 questions on the topics of the course: 3 on dental materials and 1 on prosthetic technologies; average duration 30 min; the candidate must exhibit the explanatory ability, the linking between dental materials and prosthetic technologies and the understanding of the clinical applications.
