Training objectives
- The objectives of this teaching block are:
-Root shaping techniques learning, both manual and mechanical, disinfection and root canal filling.
-Indications for restoration of endodontically treated tooth: choice critical clinical between different techniques of restoration and relative clinical procedures.
The student after lessons will have to demonstrate knowledge and ability to understanding considering specific topics:
- basic knowledge of Root shaping techniques, both manual and mechanical, disinfection and root canal filling.
- indications/contraindications to the use of materials and techniques in endodontic practice.
- diagnostic criteria and prognostic factors related to clinical cases complexity. Prerequisites
- Students should have adequate knowledge on oral anatomy and histology, oral microbiology and immunology, oral pathology, physiology, Anestesiology, pharmacology, dental materials.
Course programme
- Endodontic microbiology immunity response. Irrigants and their use.
The endo-periodontal relationships: pathology, diagnosis, therapy, prognosis.
Endodontics shaping: mechanical instrumentation.
The Ni-Ti alloy. The mechanical characteristics of the Ni-Ti instruments to increase conicity.
·Use of endodontic handpiece, fracture prevention of endodontic instruments, perfuration in endodontics.

Endo-Perio lesions
Endodontics .
Endodontici failures and retreatment.

Bleaching of not vital teeth. Didactic methods
- Lectures; practical sessions under tutor supervision; preclinical and clinical sessions.
“Problem-Based- Learning” (PBL) system will be applied during the clinical and hands on training. Learning assessment procedures
- The final mark is expressed in number between 18 and 30 (with/without appreciation). It will consider many activities:
-Intermediate tests marks during the course of conservative dentistry and endodontics I and II ( written and oral exams , provided at the end of each six-month teaching block );
-outcome of pre-clinical exercises carried out during the course of Conservative dentistry and endodontics I and II;
-final oral exam ( presentation of works realized during pre - clinical sessions , discussion about clinical cases observed during clinical activities, theoretical knowledges about contents covered during lectures). Reference texts
