Training objectives
- Basic knowledge on different forms of periodontal diseases, as well as the main clinical and radiographic parameters to assess the periodontal status of the patient. Basic principles and advanced concepts of non-surgical periodontal instrumentation.
Prerequisites
- Students should have adequate knowledge on oral anatomy and histology, oral microbiology and immunology, oral pathology
Course programme
- Classification of Periodontal Diseases (2018): plaque-induced gingivitis, periodontitis with staging and grading; necrotizing periodontal diseases. Periodontal Diagnosis: Clinical and Radiographic Parameters. Concepts of Periodontal Debridement. Non-surgical periodontal instrumentation with manual instruments: classification; Gracey and Langer curets; ergonomic principles; fulcruming techniques; sharpening techniques. Mechanic instrumentation: sonic and ultrasonic scalers; piezo-ultrasonic and magneto-ultrasonic instruments; mechanisms of action; instrumentation technique. Healing post non-surgical instrumentation: clinical, microbiologic and histologic parameters. Additional therapies to non-surgical treatment. Clinical training of non-surgical periodontal instrumentation on phantom.
