PSYCHOLOGY
Basic knowledge of mental processes, with special attention for attention, emotion, perception, thinking, language, communication processes.
MEDICAL STATISTICS
Know the experimental-logical method applied to phenomena involving variability among individual events in the biomedical sciences.
Provision of the basic knowledge to perform data processing.
Acquisition of methodological tools to critically evaluate data of public health interest in international biomedical literature.
COMPUTER SCIENCES
Objective of the course is to give a basic knowledge about the world of computing. The student will assimilate the vocabulary of the subject; understand the functioning and structure of the processors (from the point of view of hardware and software); understand the basic concepts of computer networks and, in particular, the Internet, social networks. Learn the use of Office applications. Prerequisites
- Basic knowledge in mathematics.
Course programme
- PSYCHOLOGY
Philosophical roots of scientific psychology. Methods and research in the psychological work of W.Wundt. Mind-body problem. Kurt Lewin's Psychology. Psychodinamic approach and S.Freud's Work. From Behaviorism to Cognitivism. Observational and experimental methods in research: the study of psychological variables and experimental errors. Cognition, attention, perception and Memory. Intelligence and problem-solving. Thinking, judgment and decisional processes. Languace, communication and behavior.
MEDICAL STATISTICS
The role of statistics in biomedical sciences. Purpose of data analysis and presentation of results.
Frequencies (qualitative data). Frequency distribution (quantitative data).
The graphic representations.
Synthesis and variability of data. Arithmetic means, averages and percentiles, mode. Absolute and relative indices, indices of variability.
Probabilistic phenomena. The meaning of the concept of probability. Basic definitions and basic rules. Random variables and probability distribution. Normal distribution and standard normal distribution.
Elements of statistical inference. Poin estimaion, confidence intervals. Statistic tests to verify hypotheses. Comparison of two means t-student Comparison of more than two means test ANOVA.
Chi-square test. Nonparametric Tests.
Research into relationships between and more variables: correlation ( Pearson and Spearman) regression simple and multiple.

- Theorical lessons and laboratory.
Learning assessment procedures
- PSYCHOLOGY
Oral examination based on the discussion of a written paper on a predetermined theme. The propriety of language, the originality of content and the appropriate use of the concepts discussed in the lectures will be assessed.
MEDICAL STATISTICS
Written test: 30 multiple choice quizzes (each with 5 answers) each question is worth 1 point; wrong answer or no answer 0 points; duration 45 minutes
COMPUTER SCIENCES
The final exam will be a test of 12 multiple choice questions (each with 4 responses) and 4 open (1 point for multiple-choice questions and two open questions, 0 points if the wrong or non-response)
