- Acquiring the ability to assess communication and language in early childhood.

Course programme
- Observation; observation in experimental psychology and clinical psychology.
The longitudinal direct observation of the child (Infant Observation, Child Observation according to the Tavistock model).
Practice and exercises: infant's and child's direct observation.
The child builds, thinks and represents reality; the cognitive development.
The symbolic development; the emotional development.
Playing, drawing and the personal growth. The observation of the symbolic game.
The language of gestures.
The development of language and communication skills.
The adult's role. The role of peers. Didactic methods
- Lectures. Exercises.
Learning assessment procedures
- Submission of a report including the observations made by the student during the course.
Public individual oral exam during which specific comments on the report will be discussed as well as the relation between the direct observation and the theories about development. Reference texts
